In 2006 the national Association of home builders conducted a study of life expectancy for home components. In America there are approx. 124 million residential homes, the median age of these are 32 years and 88% are occupied at any one time. The study makes note that the life expectancy is all about maintenance and amount of use. But these are the results based on when the component was replaced not so much on breakdown of even preference for a newer model.
