Sandy City Chipper

I’m writing this as a way to help you get to know Sandy, Oregon. It a great place to visit and live. I see a lot of advantages to living here. My wife (Julie) and I have lived here for over 25 years now and I still love the place. I think that is as good a recommendation as I can make.

This week I want to start with the City. It has always worked hard at helping. And to this end, several years ago we purchased an older, but very dependable chipper, towed behind a large truck with a covered dump. It’s loaned it out (yes its free!!) to anyone that can pass a simple test and live inside the Sandy city limits.

I‘ve used it a couple of times now and the more I use it, the more I find uses for it. One of the times was for my church parking lot after a big wind storm, another after I pruned a couple of trees at my house.

It’s easy to use, the city employees park it where it’s safe and easy to get to. Then before they leave, they show you how to start, stop and how to be safe. After a day or two they drive away with all your chips.

It takes some pretty big limbs and I like it because it cleans up a terrible mess and in short work it cleans out your yard and it’s all gone but the memories.

All you have to do is call the city (503) 668-5533 and ask to sign-up for the chipper. They are a great help and can sign you up quick. During the summer it stays pretty busy but when the trees are all dormant (the best time to prune) you can get it pretty much any time.

Give it a try! I have it reserved for a February weekend and my plans are to prune up several trees that were let grow from the person I bought my current house from.
